Wow! Week one went extremely fast!
This week in Leopard Class the children have settled into their new surroundings very well. The transition from Reception to Year 1 can sometimes be hard, but we are very aware of this and the children continue to have independent learning time. They have all adapted to Year 1 teaching and learning very well. During the afternoons the children have already explored our new topic ‘Once upon a Time’ where they have been helping to create our Castle role play area!
In Maths this week…the children have been working on Place value. This has involved counting forwards and backwards, counting on from any given number, recording and recognising higher numbers. They have enjoyed a number hunt and have made posters all about a number of their choice! The children have also been playing snakes and ladders which helps with a lot of our place value objectives in term 1. This may be something you would like to continue at home to support your child with their learning.
In English this week…we have been focusing on Fairy tales, particularly Rapunzel. The children have been showing off their writing skills and have written captions and sentences which include ‘and’!
We will continue with Place Value and Fairy Tales next week!
We are very proud of all the children this week and we have also given some children ‘Star of the Day’ stickers. We will be looking for good listening, good learning and good work to be our next week’s stars!
