Term 3

Friday 11th January 2019!

We've had a great start to 2019, with the children settling back into routines, catching up with friends and eager to learn! It's as though we've never been away..!

This term we are covering two mini-topics: Florence Nightingale and Light & Dark, respectively. We have learned a lot about Florence this week, writing about the problems she had to face and overcome in her journey to become a Historical Hero, and discussing the differences between hospitals in the 1800s and today. To celebrate her efforts and to embed our learning, we will have a WOW day where we will all be dressing up as a Nurse or Soldier (modern or historical) on Thursday 17th January. If you are a medical professional, please let us know if you would be able to come in and chat with the children about your job and maybe bring some equipment with you.

We have also been busy in Maths, learning how to record a tally chart and using this skill to find and record different natural objects in Forest School. Next week we will be continuing our learning of fractions (finding half and quarter), being able to recognise, find and name fractions in shapes, quantities and objects.

The weather is quite chilly at the moment and is predicted to become even more harsh, so please make sure your child has a warm coat in school every day, and wellies to change into at lunchtime. Please also make sure they have appropriate clothing for Forest School on Friday afternoons (hats and gloves are a great idea at this time of the year!)

We will resume PE lessons on Mondays next week so please make sure your child has their named kit in school.

Have a great weekend,

Mrs Crocker and Mrs Prideaux
