Term 5

24.05.19

Happy Half Term!

It's been a short one, but a busy one! We've loved our Art Attack topic, exploring Banksy, Matisse and Gaudi, ending in a celebration of our very own artwork in the 'Barley Close Gallery! The children have worked really hard this term not only in their learning, but also as they mature into kind and respectful role models. As a reward for being so amazing this term, we threw an ice-cream party on the field, complete with music and dancing!

Next term is our last as Leopards (I can't quite believe it!) and it will be the busiest yet. Our topic will be Toy Story.  Here's some highlights of the fun still to come:

- Cinema trip to see Toy Story 4
- Toys + Games Workshop - come and play games (old and new) with your child!
- Barley Bounce (Saturday 22nd June)
- Sports Week + Sports Day (parent and teacher races included!)
- Maths Week
- Class Move Up Days (26th June / 18th + 19th July)
- Leopard Class Assembly (12th July)

- Future Friday (12th July)
- End of Year Party!

And much, much more. Have a wonderful half term break, we'll see you on Monday 3rd June!

***PHONICS SCREENING: Week Beginning 10th JUNE***

This is a vital week for Year 1 children - please, please, please avoid absences during this time. If you have any questions about this process, please just ask. We're happy to help.

17.05.19

Happy Friday everyone! Just one more week to go until half term and it's a busy one. We'll have our Art Gallery on Monday afternoon - please come along to observe the children's amazing artwork inspired by the works of Gaudi, Banksy and Matisse.

We've continued reading The Magic Paintbrush this week, focusing on retelling the story in an extended write. We have many budding authors in Year 1 - some imaginative and captivating storytelling skills are really developing now. Next week we'll be reading, reciting and writing poetry!

The weather is getting hotter (albeit irregular) and we take advantage of learning in the beautiful sunshine as often as possible - so please make sure your child has a water bottle with them in school!

Reminders:

PE is on Monday - children must come into school in PE kit.

Swimming is on Wednesday - jewelry is not allowed.

Have a great weekend everyone!

Well we've had a short 4-day week but a busy one nonetheless! We've been solving measurement problems in Maths, including water capacity races on the playground and weighing different fruits. We've read the story of the Magic Paintbrush in English, focusing on using capital letters and full stops to retell the story. Due to the bank holiday we didn't have our PE session this week but we did manage to go swimming - the highlight of everyone's week, I'm sure! To finish off a super week we lit a campfire in Forest School and toasted marshmallows to make smores. Yum!

Next week we'll be cracking on with Athletics practice in preparation for Sports Day so please make sure all children come into school on Monday dressed in their PE kit and suitable footwear.

As always, if you have any questions please come and see us. Happy to help.

Have a great weekend,

Mrs Crocker and Mrs Prideaux

First of all, welcome back! We hope you all had a great Easter holiday packed with loads of fun.

We've had a busy start to this short term (only 5 weeks!) including using spray chalk paints and stencils to create our own Banksy artwork on the school walls - they were so good some of the older children are convinced the real Banksy has snuck in! We will also be experimenting in the styles of Matisse and Gaudi in the run up to May half term.

Please continue to read at least 3 times a week - it's a vital life skill which the children really enjoy. Please also practice spellings daily in preparation for the weekly Wednesday test.

Reading books are also now changed on Wednesdays.

We have PE on Mondays so please make sure your child comes into school already in their PE kit. On our swimming day (Wednesday) children are to come in to school in usual uniform.

We hope you all have a fantastic bank holiday weekend.
