Mr Ford is the teacher in Lion class. We also have Mrs Williams who is a teaching assistant in the mornings and a reading assistant in the afternoons. Miss Harris also works in Lion class all day.
We are always very busy in our class as we have lots of fun learning to squeeze in! In the morning, we take part in RWI/Literacy and Numeracy lessons and we also complete our Guided Reading and intervention tasks. In the afternoons we have various creative activities such as; topic, PE, swimming, music, Religious Education and PSHE.
We are very lucky because we still get our afternoon play and free fruit! We take part in 'Funky Friday Fitness' every week and sometimes get to lead it too and we like to stay active when possible.
Days to remember
For your information, we have Swimming on a Monday afternoon and PE on a Tuesday afternoon – please remember your full PE kit as these are fun lessons to take part in! Please also remember that if your child wears earrings, then they need to be taken out that morning before school (especially for swimming as tape is not allowed once in the swimming pool).
From the teacher: Mr Ford
My name is Mr Ford and I am very excited to be staying in Lion class for my first full year at Barley Close! This is my third year teaching Year 2, after completing my final placement at University and teaching at Barley Close since January last year.
I have a few hobbies outside of school that I try to keep up, I enjoy playing Badminton with my friends on Wednesday afternoons and always try to fit in a swim at the weekend! Family and friends are the most important things to me, I spend most of my free time trying to stay in touch with friends from both School and University, although this can be tricky with a busy schedule! I am also very close with my family, Mrs Ford (Mum) is a regular visitor to Lion class (mainly to be nosey I'm sure!) and is usually there to help us with our swimming and reading.
My friends often call me 'the nerdy one' mainly due to being a big fan of the likes of Doctor Who and comic book films, so I'm sure I will have a lot in common with the children and will be able to discuss the latest episodes!
During the holidays I love to travel, often going to Spain to enjoy the sun. Two years ago I taught in South Africa for three weeks which was a great experience. I have since been part of a charity called Project Zulu, which fundraises to bring the choir from the school that I taught in to England where they tour the country and share their traditional songs and dances. After a successful tour in 2013 the choir will be returning in September 2015.
