Term 4 Feb - Apr

Friday 26th March 2021

This week in English we have been busy baking Easter Egg Nests, afterwards writing instructions for others to bake them! To do this successfully, we have been using command sentence types with imperative verbs, noun phrases, and conjunctions.

In Topic, we've also been using our creative Art & Design skills to create paper mache Easter Eggs, and using our Maths knowledge of patterns to paint them.

All the teachers want to say a huge well done to Tiger class for trying their best during test week - this really helps to inform us of the 'gaps' in learning following lockdown, and how we can most appropriately plan future lessons.

Next week's learning:

In English, we'll be finishing off writing instructions about how to make Easter Nests, and sharing them with other classes so they can have a go at baking! We'll also be learning about Easter in our Reading lesson, answering comprehension and inference questions.

In Maths, we'll be practising our Time skills, reading and drawing the time to o'clock, half past, quarter past and quarter to, and beginning to tell the time to the nearest 5 minutes.

In Topic, we'll be using our map skills in Geography to complete an Easter Egg Hunt, as well as drawing our own sketch maps for other children to complete a hunt! We'll also be going on a Spring Hunt to collect data in our field work.

Have a lovely weekend,

Miss Mitchell, Miss Harvey and Mrs Selway

Friday 12th March 2021

Congratulations Tigers! You have reached the end of your first week back to school after our third National lockdown! It's been a great week too - a little strange to begin with as we all tried to remember the routines and expectations, but you have been brilliant at jumping back into the swing of things.

It's been exciting too as you've met your new classroom teacher - Miss Harvey! Miss Mitchell and Miss Harvey are working together to teach you now, with Miss Mitchell organising and preparing things from home, and Miss Harvey delivering the lessons.

This week we have been reading a new text, 'The Tiny Seed', as we work towards our end of unit outcome of writing a recount of the life cycle of a seed, using our Grammar knowledge of sentence types to write questions, commands, statements and exclamations.

In Maths, we have been focused on Measurement, specifically mass and capacity, reading scales in divisions of ones, twos, fives and tens, as well as reading scales where not all numbers on the scale are given and estimating points in between.

In Topic, we have celebrated the special women in ours lives for Mother's Day! We've used our Art & Design skills to make cards and glass-painted necklaces.

Celebrations

Hello Tigers!

We are now over half way through the year and although it's been very mixed up and confusing, you have done a smashing job at keeping positive and still always trying your best!

We now know that you'll all be coming back to school from March 8th, and we have lots of fun and interesting topics to learn about... lots of it involves eating! From pancakes to Easter egg nests, this term is definitely full of sweet treats... yum! Our topic is called 'It's a Small World' and to get an idea of the learning we'll be doing in English, Maths and Topic have a look at the overview.

As you know by now, I will be far along in my pregnancy which means my baby is close to arriving! Unfortunately this means I need to stay at home and work from there to keep the baby safe until he's born, so I won't be in class on March 8th. I will miss you all greatly and I'm really sad to be missing out on all the fun activities we've got planned for you! I'll still be around though - we'll have weekly zoom calls as a whole class, and I'll still be an active member of Team Tiger.

To replace me in the classroom, we're welcoming Miss Harvey to Tiger class! I have met her briefly, and she is very friendly and super excited to meet you all. Mrs Selway, Mrs Gibbs, Mrs Cornish and Mr Quirke are all still going to be around as usual, so there's still lots of familiar faces for you to see.

I hope you're all looking forward to being back with your friends and seeing your classroom again. The first week back will involve making Mother's Day cards and gifts, glass painting, poetry and a whole new book; The Tiny Seed.

Have a great week with the sunshine... Spring is on its way!

Miss Mitchell, Miss Harvey and Mrs Selway
