Term 1 has been a fantastic start to Year 2. Lion Class have worked so hard and been so enthusiastic about any challenge thrown their way. 

In English we have read and completed writing tasks around the book Meerkat Mail and One Day On Our Blue Planet - In the Savannah. We have also written non-chronological reports/fact files about tigers. The children have really loved focusing on wild animals this term. Our learning targets have been writing full sentences with capital letters and full stops, writing questions with the correct punctuation and using expanded noun phrases to describe e.g. The magnificent, proud lion. 

In Maths we have recapped place value of numbers to 50 and 100. We have used dienes and numicon equipment to help us create the numbers visually so we can see their value and we have also used number lines to 30 and 100 squares for addition and subtraction. We have also studied 2d shapes and fractions. Lion Class have a great resilient attitude to their Maths learning which is great to see.

This term's history unit has been all about the Wright Brothers and their first flight. PSHE has been about rewards and consequences of our actions and our responsibilities as members of school and society. Our art unit was based around nature. We made arrangements of items found outside and completed continuous line drawings of leaves. We finished the unit by creating wax drawings of leaves and washing over them with Brusho water based paint to create a wax resist painting of a leaf. These have been made into an autumn tree display in our cloakroom which the children are all very proud of.
