  • Term 3 update again!

    Mon 04 Jan 2021

Further to the news tonight the plans we had in place and shared with you today will stay in place for yr1-5.

I am sorry to say that although Panda, Giraffe and Zebra were told they could all return we now know this can’t be the case. Only key worker and vulnerable children in these yr groups can attend. We know who those children are as you had already requested a place and it was confirmed by email earlier.

As we get more information we will let you know. I am so sorry for all this change at such short notice.

    Mrs Williams

  • Term 3 update

    Mon 04 Jan 2021

Further to a meeting with staff today and addressing safety concerns that unions had raised nationally, we will be able to open Panda, Giraffe and Zebra classes as normal. Their class teachers will be in delivering lessons face to face only. We expect all children in these year groups to attend as normal.  the previous drop off and collection times will still remain. We appreciate some parents may be nervous so please contact me via email to discuss.

    Mrs Williams

For those children in Rec, yr 6 and coming in as key workers or vulnerable children, breakfast club and OSC will be open as normal for those who have booked.

  • Term 3

    Sun 03 Jan 2021

As you may be aware from the media teaching unions have been advising colleagues on the safety of returning to school following the festive break. Following union meetings and discussions with our Chair of  Governors we will not be able to open safely for pupils at this current time. This will be reviewed on Friday 8th January.

We have a planned INSET tomorrow, Monday 4th January, and as of Tuesday 5th January teachers will be providing learning remotely. We will be open for key worker and vulnerable children. Below is the criteria, if you feel you fit this and your child will need a place please email

jo-marie.williams@barleyclose.org.uk by 11am on Monday 4th January saying why you need the place, we will then be in touch later on Monday.

We will also be in touch with the FSM families.

I am sorry for the short notice of this but with the ever changing situation I am letting you know as soon as I had been made aware.

    Mrs Williams

  • Important Food Parcel Offer

    Wed 28 Oct 2020

The Local Authority are pleased to offer the following:

    Emergency Assistance Grant Offer

Our Primary offer to support our most vulnerable families during this half-term holiday is through our Emergency Assistance Grant funding to ensure that families in need have access to food.

Our Emergency Assistance Grant funding is available. Families eligible for free school meals can apply for a payment card by visiting our One Stop Shops, contacting their local Citizens Advice Bureau or calling the Council on 01454 868009, and successful applicants will receive a card within 48 hours with sufficient funds (£20) for meals for a week for their children that can be used in all main supermarkets and other retail outlets.  We encourage you to publicise this offer so that parents/carers are able to access this; for most families, we would suggest this will be a really good option.

    Food Parcel Offer

In addition, on Thursday and Friday of this week, we have organised across the Council area, food parcel collection points for parents and/carers that as is an alternative to the above and for where a voucher may not be their preferred option.  All parents/carers will need to do, is turn up at the collection point and they will be given a food parcel containing various products.  We are wanting to make this as easy as possible and to ensure that people feel comfortable in collecting.  Integra have worked tirelessly in conjunction with ELS and our Transport department with support from Local schools to get an offer in place.  All collection points across South Gloucestershire will be open from 11am-1pm on Thursday 29th and Friday 30th October.  The food parcels contain dried goods only and non-perishables.

We must once again thank Heads and CEOs for their support of the Council in putting in place this offer.

The collection points are listed below and we encourage you to highlight where you nearest collection point is. Parents and carers, go to the front entrance, they will be directed the collection point as appropriate, this will be the Drama Hall at KOA and we may update other locations on the premises in due course.  We have tried to cover the whole geography of South Gloucestershire so that we meet the needs of as many families as possible, so please see a list of schools.

  • COVID in half term

    Fri 23 Oct 2020

Why do we need to contact different people at the beginning of half term?

When Covid-19 symptoms start the person is infectious 48 hours before this and up to 10 days afterwards.  If your child gets symptoms over the weekend it may impact on others in their class. But if they get symptoms from Monday of half term onwards and then gets tested positive you won’t need to alert the school/setting.  You will need to let all those your child has been in close contact with know they have tested positive and they will need to self-isolate.
