Term 1 Week 2 Learning Update:
We have had another lovely week. The children are beginning to learn their new routines for Year 2. The arrival of the circus on Friday was extremely exciting!
English- We began learning about noun phrases, using the story Meerkat Mail to help us. We have been using adjectives to describe settings in the story and next week we will write postcards based on the story.
Maths- We continued our learning about place value, particularly focusing on tens and ones in 2-digit numbers.
History- We created a timeline of events in Florence Nightingale's life, using dates to help us.
Art- We continued our "Explore and Draw" unit by arranging natural materials that we collect last week to make pictures.
Science- We talked about materials and thought about which materials would be best for a range of purposes. For example, would a glass table or a wooden table be more sturdy?
Term 1 Week 1 Learning Update:
We have had a wonderful first week back at school! The children have loved being together and have been really kind helping each other to settle in. We have got used to some new learning routines but we've still had lots of fun!
English- We looked at our "non-negotiables". These are basic grammar skills that we use every day, such as capital letters and full stops.
Maths- We looked at place value, particularly the value of tens and ones in 2-digit numbers. Some of the children found this quite tricky, so they have a MyMaths homework activity to practise this. Logins for MyMaths are in their reading records.
History- We learned about Florence Nightingale and the improvements she made to hospital care. We were really impressed when a member of Lion class could tell us all about the Crimean War as his sister had told him all about it when she was in Year 2!
Art- We began our "Explore and Draw" topic by being explorers and collectors outside, gathering natural materials to use in our artworks this term. Lions love Art and being outdoors, so they really enjoyed this lesson!
Lions have worked really hard this week and we are so proud of them!
