Workshops

Balanceability
March 2023

We were very lucky to have a free workshop offered to our youngest children to improve their balance and prepare them for cycling skills. The children were taught how to safely hold a bike, mount a bike, and manage obstacles. Lots of fun was had by all!

Chinese Dance Workshops

January 2023

We have been very fortunate to experience traditional Chinese style dancing to celebrate Chinese New Year, thanks to the amazing fundraising of our FOBC (Friends of Barley Close PTA).

Each year group had a wonderful session learning the traditional Chinese style of dance, exploring cultural music and props as well as learning about the Year of the Rabbit and how those in Chinese culture celebrate their New Year.

CSET Infant Agility

January 2022

January 2022 saw the start of Infant agility. Alex from CSET came and trained 30 year 6's as leaders before working with everyone in year 1-4. The Yr 6 leaders supported groups of children on each activity- throwing, running, catching, jumping and balancing. The scores have been submitted and certificates will be given to the top in each area from each class.

Year 5 term 2 Bristol Flyers sport and well being workshop

We are delighted to be partnering with Bristol Sport Foundation to provide identified schools with a term of Health Squad, their Bristol Flyers Community health education programme, a term of Forever Sport, their first-class PE and sports coaching programme and two after school clubs per term.

Health Squad comprises of six weeks of 2 hours of delivery for two classes (Years 5/6) with each class receiving practical basketball lessons with a level 2 qualified basketball coach and classroom lessons that take a holistic approach to health. The weekly topics include the effect of inactivity on our health, food/diet, how the brain works and strategies to maintain good mental health, this is me – body image/gender/family/social media, and sleep.

Forever Sport is Bristol Sport Foundation’s flagship participation programme which provides PE and sport for 38 primary schools across Greater Bristol and BANES. A key point of difference for the programme, relative to other sports coaching providers, is that they employ specialists in each sport, for instance, their three full-time gymnastics coaches are qualified gymnastics coaches who have each been involved in the sport for more than a decade. The passion, expertise, and experience these specialist coaches have allows them to engage and inspire children to fall in love with sport, whilst also providing outstanding professional development for school staff through their teaching mentoring provision.

Our year 5's were really lucky to have been invited to a guided tour of Aston Gate Stadium, a dodgeball competition and a premier viewing of Robin Robin !
