Term 6 Learning

Term 6 Overview of Learning and Experiences

Term 6 Week 5 Learning Update.

 

English- We have started a new unit about factfiles. Next week, the children will write a factfile about whales, following on from our story in the last unit, The Snail and The Whale. Our grammar skill is to use the prefix un- to change the meaning of the root word. 

 

Mahts- We have been learning about position and direction, including left and right, turns, clockwise and anti-clockwise and ordinal numbers. 

 

DT- We discussed healthy eating and planned what we would include in a healthy sandwich. The children will make their own healthy sandwiches next week. 

 

PE- In swimming, we practised floating on our tummies and on our backs, holding our backs straight to stay buoyant.

 

Science- We continued our learning about plants by exploring the school grounds to look for different types of trees and taking wax rubbings of their tree bark.

Term 6 Week 2 Learning Update:

 

English- We finished our unit writing a trip recount using the past tense. Next week, we are learning about the story The Snail and the Whale.

 

Maths- We learned about quarters. There is a MyMaths activity to practise these skills.

 

DT- We began our unit designing and making a healthy sandwich. This week, we talked about food groups and how to choose healthy ingredients to make a balanced sandwich.

 

Science- We learned to identify common flowers in our area. We recapped the parts of a plant to be able to describe the flowers we found.

Term 6 Week 1 Learning Update:

 

English: We are writing a recount of our class trip to the SS Great Britain using past tense verbs. There is an optional homework activity attached, if you would like to do this with your child. You can either print, cut and stick or your child can write a list of past tense verbs and another for present tense verbs, If your child does this homework, make sure they bring it to their teacher for some extra raffle tickets!

 

Maths: We have learned about halves this week. We found half of shapes, quantities and numbers. Next week, we are learning about quarters. There will be MyMaths activities linked to this learning to help the children consolidate what they have learned. 

 

RE: We talked about places of worship. We discussed which places are sacred in different religions and talked about some of the objects that may be found in places of worship. 

 

History: We visited the SS Great Britain! The children had a really informative tour and asked lots of questions about their learning.

 

PSHE: The children thought about what they would like to be when they grow up and drew pictures of themselves in these roles.
