Week 5 Update:
Fabulous week in year 2!
We enjoyed our lovely trip to Chepstow Castle, they did absolutely brilliantly. They climbed a very tall tower with a spiral stone staircase, saw the great hall and the latrines dropping straight to the river Wye!
We made some worry dolls using sticks we had foraged and wool. They all remained resilient and made some brilliant dolls that went home for you all to see.
Overall, both classes have been amazing!
We hope you all have a lovely weekend, we will see you next week :)
Week 4 learning update:
Thursday 3rd July is our Year 2 trip to Chepstow Castle - the weather is set to be warm and sunny so sun lotion and hats will be a must. Also a drinks bottle and packed lunch. Normal school uniform with trainers so comfy for walking.
Last week we focused on English writing skills like using contraction words for example: don't, shouldn't, can't, I'll in sentences and also in questions. Children sometimes forget how to start a question: something to challenge them with when you're out and about. Ask me a question about where we are starting with Who, What, Why, When, Where, How etc.
In Maths we looked at position and direction. We studied the language of turns: quarter turn, half turn, full turn and then the direction: left/right or anticlockwise/clockwise. On Wednesday Mrs Johnson pretended to be a robot and children had to direct me from one part of the classroom to another. All good fun and putting our learning into practice!
Set to be another warm week this week so lots of water, sun lotion and hats. Thanks as always for helping your child to read 5x and complete their MyMaths and TimesTable Rockstar homework. It all adds up and builds their confidence.

Term 6 Week 3 Update:
WOW! What a week indeed!
In all the excitement of Arts Week, we still manged to complete our Maths and English learning. English saw us writing our poems about protecting the ocean and Maths allowed us to begin our unit of learning linked to Position and Direction.
This week coming, we will work on our "non-negotiable" skills in English and complete our learning linked to Position and Direction.
So... what did we do in Arts Week? More like "what didn't we do"?!
It was jam packed with the following:
Dance Workshop
Lego Printing
Earthfest Concert - live and in person!
Messy Church arts and crafts
Mondrian Artwork
Norbot launch and designing
Drumming
Strictly Dancing session
Cooking
My gosh! Isn't this just what primary school is all about? The children had a fantastic time taking part in these different activities and demonstrated an excellent attitude and range of skills to every task that was set! Amazing!
We also took part in the MAD Olympiad on Thursday morning. It was a scorcher of a day but they were amazing! Excellent effort with every activity, great behaviour and a great morning all round! A huge thank you to all of our parent/ carers helpers too - these things wouldn't be possible without your support!
We hope you are enjoying the weekend so far - it looks to be a little cooler tomorrow - let's hope so!

What a lovely week for Year 2!
In English, we have started to look at our new unit of poems. We are reading "Meet the Oceans" and looking at how we can prevent pollution. We are focusing on noun phrases and apostrophes with contractions.
In Maths, we have been looking at temperatures. Although it was their first time covering temperature, they all had a very good go and have shown interest in the temperature change of this week! Very drastic temperature changes!!
In Geography, we drew a sketch map using a arial view of Bristol. They can successfully locate the floating harbour, Clifton Suspension Bridge and Leigh Woods.
A few reminders,
- No swimming on Friday, please wear PE kits instead.
- MAD Olympiad on Thursday. Please arrive at 8:15 so we can set off early. (If you havent emailed your class teacher to confirm your consent, please can you ensure this is done so we can confirm numbers.)
Have a lovely weekend,
Miss Sheppard, Mrs Rammell and Mrs Johnson
Term 6 Week 1 update
Lovely to be back with Lions and Tigers again this week. This week included our first proper swimming lesson today. We are SO, SO proud of all the children for getting into the pool, organising their things in the changing rooms and for really listening to the feedback from the amazing swim coaches Sasha and Jas. Well done all! The children swam on their front and backs using a pool noodle to begin with then some children without.
Friends of Barley Close have launched a Penny Wars campaign. Each class have a jar to fill with 1p, 2p and 5p coins. The class with the most money raised will get to keep that amount to spend on what they choose. The rest of the money will go toward new lunchtime play equipment. Let's get collecting!

On Friday we reminded the children about their trip to Slimbridge which was funded by the Wetland Wildlife Trust (WWT). We gave children log in details for the Generation Wild website. We will reissue these again next week as a reminder. On the website there are suggested nature activities like rolling in the grass, cloud watching, nature listening. When an activity is completed children can tick it off. Once 10 activities are completed, teachers can award children with a Guardian of the Wild Certificate and badge. Totally optional but fun.
Have a lovely weekend, thank you for your support with home learning and reading.
