Weekly Round Up! Week 6
Wow! What a week we've had!
We recapped using arrays for multiplication in readiness to use the number line method next time.
We then made a start on our measures unit by measuring in cm a m so far!
A lot of our time was focussed on our Nativity performance. We had our dress rehearsal to the whole school - they LOVED it!
We then also completed two performances to all of our lovely parents and carers! And didn't they do well?! All of the Year 2 staff were so SO proud of each and every child! I wouldn't want to go on stage in front of so many people so it just goes to show how fantastic and brave they all truly are!
For the rest of the week we covered the following:
We made our healthy, balanced, packed lunch, including a wrap, cucumber and carrot sticks, a piece of fruit and we also followed a recipe to make shortbread biscuits as a treat! Yum, yum!
Weekly also finished our Geography unit on maps and weather. We learned that weather tells us what is happening outside today. Climate is the weather patterns identified over long periods of time. The children have learned all about the 7 continents, the 5 oceans and the equator line this term.
Reminder: last day of term on Friday is a non uniform day.
What a great week and one more to go before Christmas!
See you all next week!
Week 5 learning update:
Gosh we're ending this week with a weather warning. Hope you can all stay warm and cosy indoors tomorrow. Year 2 have been absolutely brilliant this week. We have been in the school hall every day practising our Christmas Play: Lights, Camel, Action. We have been singing and dancing our hearts out. We are so excited for you to see it on Wednesday 11th December at 2pm or 6pm.
IMPORTANT: Could children be brought back to school for 5.45pm on Wednesday so we can get them into their costumes ready for the performance at 6pm? If you are unable to bring your child back to school please can you let the class teacher know. Thank you!
Thank you so much for providing your children with their fantastic costumes. I know we've got some more being delivered over the weekend. We need them by Tuesday morning when we have a dress rehearsal to the whole school please.
On Wednesday we had the Cinderella Panto show come in paid for by the Friends of Barley Close. I've never seen the children laugh so much. They all loved it.
On Thursday we had an extra fun PE session with Sports Coach Alex. He played Christmas themed games with Year 2 which they really enjoyed. Lots of giggles.
In between all the extra bits, we've also written our end of unit letter for English based on the book The Jolly Christmas Postman. We used Dear and Yours Sincerely and used commas in a list in our letters.
It's been a busy week. Next week will feel very festive with our Christmas performances and on Friday we get to wear our Christmas jumpers to school! Normal school trousers please.
Have a lovely weekend, stay safe.

Term 2 Week 4
Another successful and busy week in Year 2!
In English, we have been practicing the use of commas in our writing. Eg: For Christmas I would like a motorbike, board games and some books. This is something we will be using in the coming weeks.
In Maths, we have been looking at recognising coins, notes and counting notes, pounds and pence. We have been adding up money and looking at how to recognise smaller or larger amounts.
In Geography, we have been looking at the equator and how this links to the temperature of the earth. They are still all loving the continents song!
We have also put in lot's of practise for our Christmas Play! All children have been sent home with slips detailing their character, costumes, dates and some will also have their script to learn. Can you please bring your costumes into school as soon as possible. Please have them in plastic bags with names attached.
If you have any questions, concerns or need some help sorting out a costume, we are here to help :)
We also have a fun extra PE session with coach Alex on Thursday so can children please wear PE kit on Thursday as well as timetabled days please.
We hope you all had a lovely weekend and look forward to welcoming you back on Tuesday.

Term 2 Week 3
What a fab week we have had again!!
In English, we continued with our learning linked to instructions. We planned our instructional text, wrote it up and edited it where needed whilst making sure we had all the key features such as imperative verbs, numbers and adverbs for time.
In Maths, we used arrays to multiply by 5 and then moved onto our unit linked to money. We have been looking at recognising coins, notes and counting notes, pounds and pence. We will continue with this unit of learning next week to consolidate our understanding.
In Geography, we found out about about the 4 points of the compass: North, East, South, West. We learned the rhyme naughty elephants squirt water to help us remember.
Thursday was PSHE and French songs with Mrs G!
Friday was non uniform day for the fair. Thank you for all of the chocolate! We read the nativity story for English and answered some questions. In the afternoon we logged onto the laptops in the computer suite.
What a busy week!
We hope you all had a lovely weekend and look forward to welcoming you back on Monday.

Term 2 Week 2 learning update:
This week was anti-bullying week. We learned that bullying is intentional and repeated harm over a period of time. Bullying is not falling out with a friend. We learned that adults at school and home are always there to help us when we need it. Classmates can also support each other with a smile or including each other in their games.
Friday was busy with Children in Need activities. We coloured in a Pudsey Bear and looked fabulous in our own colourful clothes and Pudsey ears. In the afternoon on Friday, we also had a Road Safety Workshop. We learned the Green Cross Code: Think, Stop, Look, Listen. There is a letter heading home with more information and an activity on the back for the children to complete if they wish to.
In English, we’ve been studying the features of instructions. We learned about ‘bossy verbs’ also known as imperative verbs. These are the kinds of words found in instructions such as: mix, cut, move, get, find, chop, make. We wrote some instructions we might hear in the classroom and also instructions on how to have a happy playtime.
In Maths, we focused on estimating and comparing numbers to 100. We used the greater than and less than symbols to compare numbers. You might hear your child say: The crocodile eats the greater number. This just means the larger part of the < arrow will point at the larger number. Imagine the arrow > has teeth like a crocodile! It helps the children to remember.
In Science we completed an experiment to find out how flexible different materials were. We squashed, squeezed, bent and twisted items like play dough, paper and wood. We rated each material from 1 – not at all to 5 – completely. All the children really enjoyed this experiment.
Next Tuesday 19th and Thursday 21st is parents evening. Please check your slot and we’ll try to be on time with our 10minute slots. We’ll put the children’s trays in Tiger Classroom so you can look at their books while you wait and we’ll call you through to Lion Classroom when it’s your slot.
We look forward to sharing your child’s learning with you.
Mrs Johnson, Mrs Rammell and Miss Sheppard.
Week 1 update:
What amazing first week back. So proud of Tigers and Lions for settling back in and getting on with some amazing learning.
In English, we have been practicing using contractions to help retell the story of "The Invisible". We focused on retelling the story in order, "levelling up" our work with some interesting adjectives and using contractions successfully.
In maths, we worked on place value, focusing on the correct placement of numbers, practicing using dienes to help us work out equations with tens and ones. Today, we put our knowledge to the test and ordered numbers on number lines, using patterns to find missing numbers and some, even going on to create their own number line maths problems. They all smashed it!
We were fortunate to have our first gymnastics lesson today! They practiced balancing, distributing body weight and gross motor skills to build up their skills for our future lessons.
What a busy week! It has been so lovely to see you all and get back into learning. Have a lovely weekend :)
