Week 4 Update:
How time flies! We have had another very busy week in Year 2!
In maths, we have been learning about fractions. We have been recognising 3/4, making 3/4 and beginning to count using fractions. Although it was a very tough topic, they were all super resilient and positive!
In Writing, we have been writing instructions on "how to avoid being eaten by the big bad wolf" using questions, exclamations and imperative verbs. They wrote some fabulous instructions! Our next writing unit will be focusing on character descriptions.
In History, we have been learning about knights and castles. This week, they made their very own castles out of cardboard! They included battlements, drawbridges and turrets. We may be biased but their castles turned out amazingly!
In our class party, we were joined by the lovely Miss Lynbourne who helped us plant our very own giant sunflowers. We drew chalk on the play ground and coloured in some lovely pictures.
REMINDERS:
Sports week is next week!
You can wear sports attire all week.
Sports day is on WEDNESDAY. Please wear your house colours!
Swimming is on THURSDAY. Please ensure you bring a swimming costume and a towel to dry with.
Due to us being predominantly outside next week, please ensure children have sun hats, sun screen and sensible clothing.
Hope you enjoy the beautiful weather over the weekend and we will see you next week!

Week 3 update
A lovely sunny week. Year 2 have been been busy. We found out about famous Kings from medieval times: King William the Conqueror and King Richard the Lionheart. There were facts around the classroom and children had to find them to sort them between the two Kings. This is part of our castles and knights unit. Next week we'll be making cardboard castles! Putting our knowledge of castle defences into practice.
In English we've been practising using question and exclamation marks to write instructions.
In Maths we revised our knowledge of fractions. We looked at fractions of shapes and amounts. Also the tricky equivalent fractions. We looked at patterns to find out that 1/2 is equivalent to 2/4 and 3/6 etc.
Wednesday 21st May is sports day so next week we'll be practising our running, jumping and egg balancing skills in preparation.
On Friday we had a super fun computing lesson creating stop motion films. We used the ipads and the app iMovie. The children loved this! We looked at how Aardman animations use stop motion to create Morph and Wallace and Gromit adventures.
Have a lovely weekend.
Sports and Science week Week 5 of term week beginning 19th May. Children to wear sports kit into school all week please so we're ready to take part in sports activities.
Sports day Wednesday 21st May. House colour t shirt to be worn please.
Thursday 22nd May swim session so swim kit needed.
Thank you for your support.

Term 5 Week 2 Update:
Well! What a fantastic week 2 of Term 5 we have had!
On Monday we went to Slimbridge and took part in finding out about Ava's Destiny.
We enjoyed taking part in this and finding out how we can look after our world but we also had a fabulous time seeing the different animals - the favourite being the flamingos and otters!
The children were amazing, with the staff even commenting on their excellent behaviour. A great day out indeed!
In Maths, we completed our learning linked to money. We used our calculation skills to find change and then repeated this by recording the actual coins that we would receive as change too.
In English, we used the skills previously taught to re-write our version of the story of Little Red using a range of conjunctions to add detail to our work.
Science saw us looking into life cycles of frogs, caterpillars and chickens and demonstrating our understanding of these life cycles.
This week was also Geography week so we were lucky enough to have a special lesson taught by Mr Keeping linked to maps and even more spectacularly, a lesson within the Explorer Dome!
WHAT A WEEK!
Next week we'll move into fractions in maths for example and we'll also start thinking and preparing for sport's day!
As always, polite request to read 5 times a week and feel free to take the time to complete MyMaths and TTRS!
However, it is a 3 day weekend with lovely weather, so more importantly, we hope you all have a lovely time and we look forward to seeing you all next Tuesday!
