Week 3 learning update

A wonderful week of meeting lots of parents and carers for parents evening. It was so great to share children’s successes and strengths as well as their next steps. We really appreciate parents taking the time to come in and all the support with home learning.

In English this week we wrote a diary entry based on the book ‘The Barnabus Project’. We wrote it from the point of view of a laboratory project animal trying to break free to escape to freedom. The children used adverbs for time like first, next, after that to organise our writing. They also included lots of lovely description like the dark, gloomy room or the abandoned lab. As always we’re reminding children quality of writing and handwriting is as important as the quantity.

In Maths we focused on subtracting 1s and 10s using a number line. We partitioned numbers to make it easier to subtract them. The children demonstrated lots of resilience when working on these new methods and we were really proud of everyone.

In Geography we continued our wild earth unit by learning about Mount Vesuvius - a powerful active volcano in Southern Italy.

In PE we learned about effective balancing as part of our parkour unit.
Next week we have a Panto show ‘Jack and the Beanstalk’ on Wednesday morning. This is paid for by the school fundraising events like the Circus.

Have a lovely week and stay warm,

Mrs Rammell, Mrs Johnson and Miss Sheppard

Week 2:

What a busy week in year 3! The children have been super busy in school this week with lots of different activites! We took part in an athletics and agility session which including running, jumping, throwing and balancing! We have also completed a range of challenges for Children in Need and joined Joe Wicks on a fun sporting activity online!

In maths - We have been partioning numbers into 100s, 10s and 1s, finding numbers on number lines and independently completing part-whole models to show numbers within numbers! Very well done year 3.

In writing - We have started our brand new unit of work focusing on "The Barnabus Project". They have designed their very own failed project and began learning about adverbs, adjectives and nouns to enhance their very fabulous sentences!

In Geography- We have been looking at the earth and it's layers. We have learned key vocabulary such as crust, upper mantle, lower mantle, outer core, inner core. We began learning how volcanos are formed and tectonic plates.

I science - We have been learning about friction. We discovered how different surfaces can produce different levels of friction.

Overall, we had a very busy and fun week. The weather is looking very wet for the foreseeable so please ensure children have coats and appropriate footwear.

REMINDER: Parents evening is on 18th and 20th next week. Please book in if you haven't managed to yet :)

Have a lovely, restful weekend and we will see you next week!

Term 2 Week 1

Good morning!

What a wonderful first week back! It was lovely to hear about the children's week off from school and what they got up to during that week.

In English, we completed our learning linked to fact files and created a text all about the North Pole. We used commas in a list and the correct organisation features for this text type such as a title, sub-titles, facts, bullet points and a glossary.

In maths we started our unit linked to Place Value and worked on partitioning numbers to 1000, representing numbers to 1000 using hundreds, tens and ones and also finding 1, 10 and 100 more/ less. Next week, we will continue with place value and revisit finding 1, 10 and 100 more/ less initially.

PE saw us working on our ball skills and in PSHE we have moved onto our new unit of 'Celebrating Differences' and focussed on 'Families'.

In Science, we introduced our new topic and this week we were thinking about friction and what surfaces will work with one another surface to create more or less friction.

Geography is an exciting topic called 'Extreme Earth' and we looked at the layers of the earth this week.

Polite reminders:
Please try to read 5x a week as this helps with all areas of learning.
25 minutes of Timestable Rockstars a week = raffle tickets!
Mymaths: I'm SO sorry, this will be updated ASAP!

Hope you've all had the amazing weekend you deserve and we cannot wait to see you all next week!
