What a lovely week for Year 2!
In English, we have started to look at our new unit of poems. We are reading "Meet the Oceans" and looking at how we can prevent pollution. We are focusing on noun phrases and apostrophes with contractions.
In Maths, we have been looking at temperatures. Although it was their first time covering temperature, they all had a very good go and have shown interest in the temperature change of this week! Very drastic temperature changes!!
In Geography, we drew a sketch map using a arial view of Bristol. They can successfully locate the floating harbour, Clifton Suspension Bridge and Leigh Woods.
A few reminders,
- No swimming on Friday, please wear PE kits instead.
- MAD Olympiad on Thursday. Please arrive at 8:15 so we can set off early. (If you havent emailed your class teacher to confirm your consent, please can you ensure this is done so we can confirm numbers.)
Have a lovely weekend,
Miss Sheppard, Mrs Rammell and Mrs Johnson
Term 6 Week 1 update
Lovely to be back with Lions and Tigers again this week. This week included our first proper swimming lesson today. We are SO, SO proud of all the children for getting into the pool, organising their things in the changing rooms and for really listening to the feedback from the amazing swim coaches Sasha and Jas. Well done all! The children swam on their front and backs using a pool noodle to begin with then some children without.
Friends of Barley Close have launched a Penny Wars campaign. Each class have a jar to fill with 1p, 2p and 5p coins. The class with the most money raised will get to keep that amount to spend on what they choose. The rest of the money will go toward new lunchtime play equipment. Let's get collecting!

On Friday we reminded the children about their trip to Slimbridge which was funded by the Wetland Wildlife Trust (WWT). We gave children log in details for the Generation Wild website. We will reissue these again next week as a reminder. On the website there are suggested nature activities like rolling in the grass, cloud watching, nature listening. When an activity is completed children can tick it off. Once 10 activities are completed, teachers can award children with a Guardian of the Wild Certificate and badge. Totally optional but fun.
Have a lovely weekend, thank you for your support with home learning and reading.
