  • Barley Close V The Tynings

    Fri 30 Jan 2015

Yesterday, Barley Close played against Tynings School at football. Barley Close played extremely well and the hard work paid off with an outstanding goal by Ellie from the half way line.

We had an excellent first half with Zak, Will and Ali so close to scoring but couldn’t quite find the net. Tynings also played well but the score at half time was 0-0. We still had a clean sheet with some great defending and goalkeeping by Grace and Eddy.

The second half kicked off with the game on a knife edge and then on 27minutes Ellie’s strike takes the score to 1-0 to Barley Close. All of a sudden the hail and snow starts crashing down and the game has to be called off on 28minutes. After the game, Mr B consults the rule book and the result can stand at 1-0 and Barley Close record their first win of the New Year.

We would like to congratulate the whole team for their excellent performance and the win we got.

The player of the week award goes to Ellie

  • PCSO comes to visit

    Wed 21 Jan 2015

Last week we had a visit from Mike, our local PCSO (police community support officer). He came in to talk about his role in our community and present the school with a brand new set of high-vis vests to use when we are out and about in our community.

Below is a photo of some Year 6's and Mrs King showing off our new vests!

  • Nursery lead Funky Fitness Friday

    Fri 16 Jan 2015

Every Friday the children gather in the hall and after our achievement assembly we take part in Funky Fitness Friday.

We dance, sing and have fun in order to help us stay healthy and promote an active lifestyle.

This week some of the youngest children in our school lead the fitness dance to the song 'Everything is awesome'!

    They were awesome!!

  • Building work

    Thu 15 Jan 2015

As you can see, the building work is developing for the new building at Barley Close. There will soon be more heavy machinery on site as the building starts to take shape. Speller Metcalfe (building contractors) meet regularly with the school in order to ensure that the building work has minimal impact to the school day and all the children, staff and families are safe at all times. We would like to thank Speller Metcalfe for their professionalism and organisation so far.

From Monday we will be able to open Stockwell Drive school entrance at the beginning and end of the day so families can use this pedestrian access to drop off and pick up their children.

As part of the work, we will also be redesigning our playground, this includes a hard surface extension and the challenge play equipment being replaced and relocated.  The hard surface extension will start next week; there will be fencing on part of the playground as this work is carried out. This work will take around 4 weeks to complete. During this time we would like to use as much of the school grounds as possible in order for the children to have a full and exciting lunchtime. The staff team will help support the children with this. In order for this to happen we need as many children as possible to bring wellies into school so we can use our school field at lunchtime. Wellies will need to be brought to school in a named bag so they can be neatly stored. Please also put your child’s name in the wellies.

Thank you for your continued partnership and your patience during this time.
