  • Social media and school

    Thu 27 Nov 2014

Please be careful when using social media and think carefully about your behaviour online, if you have any issues or concerns please come and see us, phone the office, send an email or send us a message through the website.

There are some scary facts about Facebook and social media you might want to know…

    1. You can NEVER have a private conversation on Facebook

Even if your privacy settings are set to the highest level your comments and photos can still be searched for and read by anyone!

    2. Facebook’s business plan is to get you to share as  much personal information as possible

They use this information to target you with adverts – have you ever wondered why one day you are discussing holidays online and the next day the adverts on your Facebook page are about holiday companies!?

    3. 8 out of 10 employers will carry out an internet search on their employees or potential employees

There have been some high profile cases in the news where Facebook users have been fired due to aggressive and inappropriate comments made online.

    4. A comment you make online today will stay on the internet forever (even if it’s deleted)

If these comments don’t put you in a good light, they may come back to haunt you in years to come. Facebook take data snapshots throughout the day so nothing can ever be fully deleted.

    5. Schools, businesses and organisations can take legal action against offensive comments made online

There have been cases of legal action taken against groups of people involved in a conversation even if they haven’t all made offensive comments – if a conversation you’re part of is getting ‘out of hand’, stop making comments and report it!

The Local Authority has issued guidelines for parent, carers and families. Please read these, they can be found under the tab ‘Parents’ and then click ‘Social Media’

We are planning to run some ‘Online Safety’ workshops for parents and carers in the New Year, keep an eye on the website for more information. These will tell you more about how to keep yourself and your children safe online.

  • Go Miss Tomkins!!

Congratulations to Miss Tomkins who has been shortlisted for 'School Staff Member of the Year' as part of the South Gloucestershire Sports Awards 2014.

She will be going to a fancy presentation evening on Thursday 4th December where she will find out if she wins the award!

Miss Tomkins was nominated because of the amazing job she has done promoting sport at BC and getting more of our children taking part in school and extra curricular sport.

    Good Luck Miss Tomkins!!

  • Maths Week - 24th November

Tue 11 Nov 2014 Mrs Capel

During the week of the 24th November, it is Maths week in school.

On Monday, 24th November, we would like all children to come dressed as a Mighty Multiples character. This is linked to our timestables scheme in school where sporting heros succeed in their timestables.

The characters are 100m Peter, 200m Travis, 400m Sinitta, Cycling Susie, Long Jump Jim, Javelin John, Freestyle Freda, High Jump Heather, Triple Jump Tracey, Shot Put Tony, 100m Glenda, class champ, Barley close champ or a star player.

Please don't worry though, any PE clothing will be suitable but if you can link to a character, even better.

We have also sent our letters inviting you to workshops at different stages in the week for your child's class. We hope you can make it.

I am sure it's going to be a great week.

  • Children in Need. Friday 14th November

    Mon 10 Nov 2014

To support Children in Need we would like all children and staff to come wearing non uniform on Friday 14th November. This year's national theme is Superheros so it would be great to see lots of Superhero costumes. Alternatively you could make up your own Superhero or make a mask. There are lots of ideas on the Children in Need website. Pugsey ears and spots are also a great idea. Donations will be collected by your child's class teacher on Friday morning. Thank you for your support.

  • Year 4 Visit to Sainsburys

  • Hope For Harmonie - Non-uniform day this Friday

    Tue 04 Nov 2014

As many of you may have seen in the news, a beautiful baby girl, Harmonie-Rose, was struck down with Meningococcal Septicaemia at only11-months old, and just weeks after taking her first steps her family are now faced with the terrible reality that Harmonie will inevitably lose both her arms and legs.

With the overwhelming love, help and support received so far from the local community, efforts are being made to rally round and help raise the funds needed to help Harmonie-Rose have the active life that she deserves.

Lisa Haley (a parent at BC) has been busy raising money for this cause, raising over £1600 through a fundraising event and selling raffle tickets around school. She has also organised a cake sale at Mango Jams on Wednesday.

For the Hope for Harmonie Appeal we will be holding a non-uniform day this Friday 7th November. This Friday will also be Harmonie's 1st birthday!

We will be asking for a voluntary donation and all money raised will go directly to Harmonie to help with her future rehabilitation.
