  • PGL day 3

    Thu 21 May 2015

We had a good night's sleep and an enormous, delicious breakfast!

After getting ready, we split into groups and each did different activities.

First we went quad biking. It was exciting and we were really impressed with how fast George was going! I had a practise, then went around three times. We had to earn points by avoiding hitting the cones. I earned ten points!

After that, my group went climbing. We were taught how to belay, which means holding the rope for the people who are climbing so they don't fall. This rhyme helped, "knuckles, pocket, reach around, lock it." Everyone had a go at climbing and Ellie, Maddie and Kalum got all the way to the top.

Lunch was great, we had yummy hotdogs. Mrs Currie arrived, which was epic, and Mrs Grandsen left, which was sad. Our group went abseiling and lots of people found it a bit scary, but most people had a go. We then went to do Survivor, which meant we learnt how to live outside civilisation. We found out how to build shelters and make fires!

After all that, it was finally time for dinner! We ate chicken curry and then all got ready for the disco!! Lots of people danced, and Miss Beak and Mrs Currie enjoyed "Cotton eye Joe!"

We had fun but we were feeling very tired so it was time to get into bed. Zzzzzz another day over!

    Thanks for reading!

  • PGL day 2

    Wed 20 May 2015
On Tuesday we were very busy. We started the day with sausages and omelet for breakfast. After breakfast we did climbing and problem solving. We had to think about how to balance a giant see saw and how to get all of our group through a tyre inner tube without touching it. The climbing was fun because most of the people managed to get to the top of the climbing wall including Mrs King, Mrs Gransden and Charlie! Swimming was fun, we played team games in the water. Luckily we managed to avoid rain showers all day. Looking forward to quad biking and the disco on Wednesday.
  • PGL Day 1

    Tue 19 May 2015

All of us arrived at PGL safe and sound. We were late because there was a traffic jam. Then we were put into our rooms and played some games. For dinner we had chicken chunks and chips with cheesecake for pudding. Then we had a camp fire with songs and stories.

We then went to bed all ready for Tuesday.

This mornings blog comes from room 197 (WIll, Ali, Kieran and Kyle)

  • Thank a Teacher

Fri 08 May 2015 Mrs Capel

It's Thank a Teacher week! So to say a thank you to all of the staff at Barley Close, we compiled a short thank you video featuring some of the children. Staff got to see this during Achievement Assembly today which touched us all. I have attached some of the highlights of the video for you to see - find it in the gallery section of the website.

  • Parking at Barley Close

    Thu 07 May 2015

At Barley Close we offer full extended services that include a breakfast club, a paid after school club and several additional after school clubs (e.g. football and arts and craft). Due to these commitments and safety of the children arriving and leaving the premises, anytime between 8am and 6.30pm, we keep the school gates closed in order to minimise traffic on the school grounds.

This does have an impact on visitors and parents parking on public roads around Barley Close School. This concern was raised by the school 2012; in response the Local Authority extended the Laurels Carpark (I have attached a map for your reference at the bottom of this article). This is a public carpark with a direct path onto the school grounds. This carpark provides ample free parking for visitors to Barley Close; we have always promoted this facility and asked the swim schools and lettings to do the same. We encourage all parents/carers and visitors to either travel to school by foot, bike or scooter or to use this carpark rather than parking on the street.

We have contacted the local PCSO and he will be making visits to the Barley Close area to ensure drivers are parking and driving legally and safely, any drivers breaking the law will be reported.

We will reiterate this expectation with all our school lettings.

  • Megan does something special

    Tue 05 May 2015

The school was set a holiday challenge during the Easter break (see last news article) and Megan did something really special.

Megan decided she wanted to do something to support her community and help the homeless. She spent hours making sandwiches and a day giving homeless people in the community a healthy meal.

Well done Megan for your kind and inspiring homework challenge!

  • SMSC Holiday Homework Project

Mon 04 May 2015 Miss Lee

A HUGE thanks to all Barley Close pupils who took part in the Holiday homework challenge over Easter!

Our holiday homework topic theme was 'SMSC' standing for 'Social, Moral, Spiritual and Cultural.'

The effort and success of all the homework entries has been amazing! With nearly 60 entries being entered altogether and homework entries submitted across every single year group, our homework display is looking absolutely fantastic!

We even had to spill over to the extra surrounding wall space to display all of them!

A big thank you for all who entered, certificates and winners to be announced soon...

    Watch this space!

    Miss Lee
