Another fantastic week in Crocodile class! We had not one, but two video calls this week. The first, with Ian and Loraine from Airbus and the second, with Ms Ruckman's second grade class. Pictures of both experiences are on the class story on ClassDojo. The children were a credit to you all during both video calls.

Celebrations

Congratulations to:

Pupil of the Week - Alfie

Reading Eggspress Star of the Week - Romany

ClassDojo winners - Quaid, Cordelle, Finley I, Yoana and Georgii

Next week’s learning

In English, we will be finishing off the term by writing a setting description for an autumnal setting.

In maths, our unit for next week is money. We will begin the week by finding different combinations of coins that equal the same amount. For example, 45p can be made by using 4 x 10p coins and 1 x 5p coin or 2 x 20p coins, 1 x 1p and 2 x 2p coins. After that, we will begin to solve simple problems involving the addition and subtraction of money of the same unit, including giving change.

In topic, we will continue to construct our very own aeroplane using a plastic bottle, cut outs, and an axle and wheels for the landing gear.

As always, please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions about anything listed above or if you have any concerns about your child. I am always happy to help and will support you and your child in any way possible. The best point of call, during this current time, is to either contact me via email or ClassDojo.

We hope you have a lovely weekend,

Mr Filer and Mrs Collins

Isn't this term just flying by? We only have 9 more school days until the October half term, as Friday 23rd October is an inset day. Once again, I have been very impressed with the children's communication skills during our PE lessons, as well as their ability to think of a wide range of questions in preparation for our class video call with two managers from Airbus, next Monday. We are also going to start our Pen Pals Project next week, and have our first video call with our pen pals - a second grade class (7 - 8 year olds) from Apopka Elementary School, Florida. Later on next week, we will compile a list of questions we'd like to ask them.

World Mental Health Day - Friday 16th October

As I am sure you are already aware, it is World Mental Health Day this coming Friday. We will be raising awareness of this by encouraging the children to wear something yellow to school. This can be an accessory or clothing. However, we will still be having our PE lesson on this day. No donations are required.

Celebrations

Congratulations to:

Pupil of the Week - Isabella H

Reading Eggspress Star of the Week - Ray

ClassDojo winners - Ewan, Kerem and Dimitar

Next week’s learning

In English, we will be continuing with instruction writing. We begin next week by annotating the WAGOLL. Next, we will complete our own short burst write, focusing on language choices. Then, we will plan our very own set of instructions for making slime before writing them up for our end of unit write.

In maths, we will be learning about time. We will first revise our knowledge about time, to include, o'clock, half past, quarter past and quarter to. Then, we will learn how to tell and write the time to 5 minutes.

In topic, we will design and construct our very own aeroplane using a plastic bottle, cut outs, and an axle and wheels for the landing gear.

As always, please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions about anything listed above or if you have any concerns about your child. I am always happy to help and will support you and your child in any way possible. The best point of call, during this current time, is to either contact me via email or ClassDojo.

We hope you have a lovely weekend,

What a great week in Crocodile class! I have been very impressed with the quality of the children's work across all subject areas but particularly in English, where the children completed their end of unit write by writing a written conversation between Rosie Revere and her aunt. They used speech marks correctly and a variety of synonyms for the word 'said'. Some children also used adverbs to qualify the verbs used in the speech. Great work Crocs!

Celebrations

Congratulations to:

Pupil of the Week - Tala

Reading Eggspress Star of the Week - Ewan

ClassDojo winners - Serena, Amelia, Jessica, Isabella H and Oliver

Next week’s learning

In English, we will be looking at instruction writing. We will begin the week by teaching Mr Filer how to make a cheese salad sandwich using clear and precise instructions. Next, we will label the key features of instruction writing. Then, we will focus on our grammar skill for this unit which is to reinforce our learning (from last year) on how to use commas in a list.

In maths, we will be looking at multiplication and division. We will learn how to draw and use a number line to complete multiplication and division calculations. We will focus on the 2, 3, 4, 5 and 10 times tables and related division facts.

In topic, we will be learning about the journey of flight and the major changes in the airline industry from the first aeroplane flight, and in science, we will be exploring why many balls bounce and investigate which sports ball is the bounciest and why. We will collate our results in a block diagram.

As always, please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions about anything listed above or if you have any concerns about your child. I am always happy to help and will support you and your child in any way possible. The best point of call, during this current time, is to either contact me via email or ClassDojo.

We hope you have a great weekend,

Mr Filer and Mrs Collins

A super two weeks in Crocodile class! The children have truly impressed me with their fantastic team work and communication skills during our PE sessions. It has been such a brilliant sight to see all the children working together to play hoop ball and rounders. Another highlight from this past fortnight, was reading the children's superb character descriptions of Rosie Revere. The children really focused on up-levelling their vocabulary to a very high standard. Many pieces of work included words/phrases such as ingenuity, crimson, scarlet, mature, determined, relentlessly racing etc. Way to go Crocs!

Reading Eggs/Eggspress

From next week, the expectation will be that every child spends at least 45 minutes on the Reading Eggs/Eggspress programme during the week at home. They can do this is small blocks or two blocks or one massive block - whichever they prefer!

Celebrations

Congratulations to:

Pupil of the Week - Harley (18.09.20) David (25.09.20)

Reading Eggspress Star of the Week - Jessica (18.09.20) Amelia (25.09.20)

ClassDojo winners - Ray, Romany, Oliver (18.09.20) Ray, Serena, Amelia, David, Ewan and Rosie (25.09.20)

Next week’s learning

In English, we will be continuing with our work, from this week, on speech marks and prepare the children to write a conversation between Rosie Revere and her aunty using speech marks and alternative words for 'said'.

In maths, we will also be continuing our work on addition and subtraction. We will introduce the column method for adding and subtracting two 3-digit numbers.

In topic, we will learn about Concorde's final flight and in science, we will be investigating how certain materials can change shape.

As always, please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions about anything listed above or if you have any concerns about your child. I am always happy to help and will support you and your child in any way possible. The best point of call, during this current time, is to either contact me via email or ClassDojo.

What a fantastic first couple of weeks we have had together in Crocodile class. It has been so lovely to be back at school, getting to know yourselves and your incredible children that we are very lucky to have in our Year 3 cohort. The children have truly impressed Mrs Collins and I with how brilliantly they have returned to school and have settled into their new routines. They are an absolute credit to you all!

Jeans 4 Genes Day - Friday 18th September

As I am sure you are already aware, it is Jeans 4 Genes Day this coming Friday. However, one of our weekly PE lessons takes place every Friday afternoon. Therefore, it is entirely up to you whether you wish for your child to dress in their PE kits or wear their jeans on this day.

Reading Eggs/Eggspress

From next week, the expectation will be that every child spends at least 45 minutes on the Reading Eggs/Eggspress programme during the week, at home. They can do this is small blocks or two blocks or one massive block - whichever they prefer!

Celebrations

Congratulations to:

Pupil of the Week - Dimitar

Reading Eggspress Star of the Week - Rosie

ClassDojo winners - Georgii (16), Caleb (11). Isabella H (11), Finley C (10), Jessica (10), Rosie (10)

Next week’s learning

In English, we will be writing a character description about Rosie, from our class book, 'Rosie Revere Engineer'. We have already looked at the possessive apostrophe and apostrophes for contractions this past week, so we are hoping that the children will be able to shoehorn these into their work, as well as many interesting adjectives, expanded noun phrases and possibly some alliteration.

In maths, we will continue with our work on place value and number. We have already looked at the place value of hundreds, tens and ones, as well as reading and writing 3-digit numbers in numerals and words. This week, we will compare and order 3-digit numbers. We will recap our work on the less than (<), greater than (>) and equal to (=) signs and move on to ordering numbers from smallest to greatest in value.

In science, we will begin our unit on 'Uses of Everyday Materials' and in topic, we will begin to find out about the history of air travel and the aviation industry.

As always, please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions about anything listed above or if you have any concerns about your child. I am always happy to help and will support you and your child in any way possible. The best point of call, during this current time, is to either contact me via email or ClassDojo.

We hope that you have had a fantastic weekend.

Take care,

Mr Filer and Mrs Collins
