Keep up to date with all the latest news happening in school at the moment.
As you can see, the building work is developing for the new building at Barley Close. There will soon be more heavy machinery on site as the building starts to take shape. Speller Metcalfe (building contractors) meet regularly with the school in order to ensure that the building work has minimal impact to the school day and all the children, staff and families are safe at all times. We would like to thank Speller Metcalfe for their professionalism and organisation so far.
From Monday we will be able to open Stockwell Drive school entrance at the beginning and end of the day so families can use this pedestrian access to drop off and pick up their children.
As part of the work, we will also be redesigning our playground, this includes a hard surface extension and the challenge play equipment being replaced and relocated. The hard surface extension will start next week; there will be fencing on part of the playground as this work is carried out. This work will take around 4 weeks to complete. During this time we would like to use as much of the school grounds as possible in order for the children to have a full and exciting lunchtime. The staff team will help support the children with this. In order for this to happen we need as many children as possible to bring wellies into school so we can use our school field at lunchtime. Wellies will need to be brought to school in a named bag so they can be neatly stored. Please also put your child’s name in the wellies.
Thank you for your continued partnership and your patience during this time.
During the week of the 2 March, it is Book week in school.
On Monday 2 March, we will be launching book week with a whole school ‘dress as a book character’ day where children can dress up as their favourite book character. There will be prizes for the best costumes!
We will also be holding parent information sessions which will include an opportunity to join your child in their class. The dates for these sessions are:
There will be a letter sent home containing these details closer to the time.

Congratulations and well done to our Singing Club members who visited Emersons Green village hall this afternoon.
The group of 24 children who attended, sang a selection of Christmas songs and carols to members of the local community.
The group managed most of the songs without music and still sounded absolutely fantastic!
We look forward to our next events coming soon!
Well done Barley Close singers!
South Glos Council - Appeal for information about man approaching schoolchildren in South Gloucestershire
We have been advised by Avon and Somerset Police to ask parents and children to be aware of a number of incidents in South Gloucestershire where a man in a car has approached schoolchildren and offered them a lift.
The police are appealing for information about three incidents, on Wednesday December 10 at Redwick Road in Pilning at 7.30am, in Greenways Road in Yate at 12.45pm and in Thornbury Road, Thornbury at 4.15pm. In each case a man in a small blue hatchback stopped and asked the children if he could give them a lift.
It is important to stress that none of the children interacted with the suspect and the driver left the scene without committing a crime.
The police believe the three reports may possibly be linked, but at this stage do not think they are connected with similar reports in North Bristol.
They are taking the reports seriously and have increased police patrols in those areas around school start and end times, and have been liaising with schools and other partner agencies.
We and the police are asking parents and children to be aware, never to accept lifts with strangers, and to tell an adult or call police immediately should they be approached.
We would urge anyone with information on these incidents to contact police immediately on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 where information can be left anonymously.
We are really keen to hear your views on Barley Close, including the things we do well and what we can do to improve.
