Our Design Technology Fabric Flower Project

Week 5 update:

Well, we have one more week until we break up for the Easter holidays and then we're 2/3 through the year... How crazy is that?! But we're having such a fun year with your children so let's hope it doesn't fly by too quickly!

So this week has been a busy one! Of course!

In English, we continued with our learning based on writing a recount. We used writing skills such as using the past tense, conjunctions (and, but, so) and the first person. We used talk for writing to help us recall our sentences to write. They created excellent pieces of writing as a result!

In maths, we have been recapping our skills linked to shape and understanding the different properties of these shapes.

In Geography, we recalled facts already known and then compared the River Severn with the River Nile. The children had a great understanding of both rivers!

PE was great fun working on our badminton skills - I love racquet sports so this has been fun to teach!

And finally, in Science, we were thinking about micro-habitats and what creatures live in different examples.

What a great week!

We hope you are enjoying your weekend so far. I took my kids to an event local to my parents and there was face painting (Minecraft and rainbows for my two!), a bouncy castle, Easter bonnet making and a bbq! Good fun.

Enjoy your day tomorrow, however you decide to spend it. We're off to a kids birthday party.

See you all next week,

Year 2 Team

Week 4 update

We had a brilliant end to the week with the rugby workshop from 2 ex Bristol Bears rugby players. All the children got involved, passing, running and scoring tries! A fantastic opportunity to learn from some talented sportsmen.

This week we've been completing a couple of assessments. There was grammar, punctuation and spelling and reading comprehension. We are so proud of all the children and their resilience when tackling these. Marking and analysing the data from these will show us what the children have learned and what to teach next or go back to. We assess maths and writing with teacher highlighted data sheets. You'll receive more information on these towards the end of the year in the school report.

Thank you to all who came to parents evening this week. It was really lovely to share your children's successes and next steps with you.

As we discussed at parents evening, the most important thing you can do with your child is to read. Especially if you find some books you both really enjoying reading together. A mix of the school books and bed time stories are the best! The children pick up so much amazing language to use in their own writing.

Hope you're having a lovely weekend.

Week 3 over and out!

In maths, we have been refreshing our knowledge on time. It is a very tricky concept to grasp but they were so resilient and enjoy using clocks to help them with their learning. Let's try our best to practice time at home, working hard on our minutes past and our minutes to.

In Writing, we have been working on time adverbials (e.g. first, next, then, finally) and using these to sequence our writing. We have also been levelling up our work with co-ordinating conjunctions (and, but, so) to make our work even better.

In Geography, we go the maps out and learned all about the world we live in. We focused on the River Nile and the River Severn and used maps to find out some similarities between the two rivers. They absolutely loved using google maps to find out about the River Nile.

In Science, we made up our own imaginary creatures, thought all about their characteristics and what sort of habitat would best suit them. Year 2 cam up with some fabulous animals and could clearly explain the importance of habitats.

We hope you all have a lovely weekend, hopefully the weather warms up and we see the sun shining!

Term 4 Week 2 Update

Well, it was another lovely week at school again!

The sunshine has made play times and lunch times fun and it's great to have the lovely weather - long may it last!

We've had another great week of learning and we're looking forward to next weeks learning too!

In English, we worked on using 'because' as a conjunction within our sentences and then made a point of using this one in our retelling of the story of The Secret Sky Garden. The children worked hard to include noun phrases, conjunctions and neat presentation. We were so proud of them all!

In maths we continued our unit of learning linked to mass. Next week we move onto telling the time so any practice recapping the 4 main times and looking at 5 minute intervals would be hugely appreciated.

PE was spent handling a badminton racquet and a shuttle cock and working on our hand/ eye coordination with this equipment.

In Geography, we found out facts about the River Severn and also asked questions about it.

Music was fun as it links to space and we had a go at making sounds using voices.

Busy busy indeed!

We hope you all had a fabulous weekend, we popped to the park and had fun playing rounders (probably me more than the kids!).

See you all on Monday!

Ps polite reminders, all always please read 5x a week and complete TTRS when possible. As teachers, we are still not able to get into MyMaths but I believe you still can?

Term 4 week 1 update:

A brilliant start to the new term. Lovely to see some sunshine this week. The children were happy to be back with their friends and have been working hard this week. We've been focusing on handwriting and presentation so that our books represent us at our best. We've been so proud of the Lions and Tigers.

You'll get to see their books at parents evening on Tuesday 18th and Thursday 20th March.

In English we reread The Secret Sky Garden so that we can write a retelling of the story next week. We have been writing using the past tense to describe events that have already happened. We've also been including noun phrases of description like busy city, tall weeds, rusty cans.

Our maths unit was measure focusing on mass/weight. We compared items looking at balancing scales describing them as heavier or lighter. We also put different amounts of mass in order from lightest to heaviest.

In PE on Friday we played tag using scarves to simulate the tags in tag rugby. Different children got the chance to be the taggers and everyone else worked on their dodging skills. Lots of fun was had.

Next Thursday 6th March is world book day. The children are invited to dress up as a book character or in their pyjamas. Keep it simple. A football kit, a stripy top to be a burglar or a dress with a headband so they can be Matilda will be perfect.

Have a lovely weekend.
