  • Maths Challenge...day 4

    Thu 13 Jul 2017

    Silly Challenges - Day 3

The sun was shining and so we led down on the field to see how many triangles we could make using our bodies! We had scalene and right-angled and isoceles - but it was too hard to do an equilateral triangle! To day we couldn't stop the adults getting involved!

We have something exciting planned for tomorrow - make sure you're out on the field and bring your dancing feet!

  • Maths silly challenges...Day 3

    Wed 12 Jul 2017

We had 2 for 1 on maths challenges today! First of all, we discovered that about 30 KS1 children could stretch out along the length of the school fence, whilst all holding hands. Then some Year 5 boys challenged themselves to see how many times they could head or kick the ball without it touching the ground! We set the challenge of 10 and were very pleased when we reached 15!

  • Graduation University

    Tue 11 Jul 2017
Today our first round of graduates graduated from Children's University at a ceremony held in St. Mary Redcliffe Church. Well done to everyone, especially Tim who performed the trumpet in front of everyone.
  • Math silly challenge...Day 2

    Tue 11 Jul 2017

Well despite the rain's best efforts, we managed a spontaneous 'How many children can you fit into the D of the netball pitch'. Great to see children of all ages working together! The challenge we had planned for today wasn't wet weather friendly - so fingers crossed tomorrow will be dry for more silliness!

  • Careers Day

    Mon 10 Jul 2017

This afternoon Year 5 and 6 have had a careers afternoon. They found out about various jobs- beautician, builder, teacher, professional sports man and police officer. They found out the importance of doing your bets and keeping your options open.

Thank you to all our guest speakers- Garth from GFC builders, Tina from Beauty Spot, Katrina the local PCSO and Ollie Kohn, ex Wales International rugby player and co-owner of Jolly Hog sausages and Pigsty in Bristol.

  • Maths silly challenge day 1

    Mon 10 Jul 2017

This week is maths week and every lunchtime we are having silly maths challenges. Today we estimated how any people could get in a car. Estimates ranged from 5 ) well it only has 5 seats) to 100.

After lots of trails we found we can fit 25 KS1 and 23 KS2 children in a polo!

  • Makaton Friendly Status award for Barley Close Nursery

    Wed 28 Jun 2017 Mrs S Gleed

Makaton Friendly Status award for Barley Close Nursery

The team of staff in Meerkat class are delighted to have been awarded the Makaton friendly status award by the Makaton charity. The staff have received training in using signed communication to help support the understanding and communication of the children within the nursery.  Makaton is 400 words taken from British sign language. Staff use Makaton throughout the session but particularly during stories and singing. Using Makaton also enables children who are learning to communicate to express their needs and wants. Receiving this award is a real achievement for the team and means that people looking for places to go where communication is supported, will be able to see Barley Close listed the charity's website. If anyone is interested in learning more about the benefits of Makaton, come and speak to one of the team.
