Term 3

Term 3 update:

This term in maths we have covered angles and time. The children have really impressed me in their ability to read clocks and convert between 12 and 24 hour time.  During our angles topic, the children learnt to use protractors to measure and draw angles.

In English we have been doing lots of work on Macbeth. We have written a character description of Macbeth at several points in the story. We have also written a balanced argument about if Macbeth is a hero or not. In the past 2 weeks we have been writing alternative endings to Macbeth using inverted commas for speech.

In science, we have been learning about animals including humans. We have mostly been focusing on the changes humans go through during puberty and when they reach old age.

In History we spent the term learning about the Anglo Saxons. The class have been so engaged in this learning and have enjoyed making links to their previous learning. We have covered their religious beliefs, armour and weapons and daily life. Last lesson we looked at how the Anglo Saxons came to an end and we will link this learning to our Vikings topic in Term 5.

In PE this term we have been looking at invasion skills. At the start of the term we were focusing on these skills in Hockey and the past few weeks we have been playing benchball. We have been talking a lot about how to win respectfully and play kindly as part of a team. On a Friday the class have been learning gymnastics skills with our sports coaches.

In art we have been looking at Monotypes and working on our sketching skills.

In RE we have been looking at the big question 'Why do we go to a  place of worship if god is everywhere?' On Wednesday we had a workshop where a Christian charity came in to look at this question too.

Finally, in PSHE we have been looking at the jigsaw puzzle piece: Dreams and goals. This involved thinking about our aspirations for the future.

Some special days this term:

Friday 7th February - We had a green jobs workshop led by UWE were the class were looking at jobs that help the environment and coming up with their own green job.

Wednesday 12th February: RE workshop

Thursday 13th February: We had a cricket workshop

Friday 17th January:

Another great week in Elephant class with lots of great learning being done! In maths we were learning about rounding to the nearest 1000, 10000 and 100000. In English we did some incredible writing about Macbeth. The vocabulary used and the grammar techniques we are using in our writing are wonderful. In science we started our new topic 'animals including humans' and we were looking at the growth of humans. In history we explored more about the Anglo Saxons and looked at their seven kingdoms. In art we have started our work on mono types and we were doing some sketching.

Well done

Pupil of the week: Erik

Friday 10th January

We had a great first week back in Elephant class. In Maths we were recapping rounding and Roman numerals. Mrs G and I can't believe how well the children did, they all completed so much work and had such a great understanding! In English we have been reading Macbeth and this week we have been focusing on getting used to the story and the characters. In science we started our new topic which is living things. We spent our first lesson recapping prior knowledge ready for this to be built on. In History we have started learning about the Anglo Saxons and how they came about. This term in PE we are having gymnastics with the coaches and in our other PE session we are learning hockey skills. We have also started out new music topic where we will be learning about South African music.

Well done:
