100 years of remembrance
WW1 Beacons of light
Emersons Green Town Council and the Royal British Legion are arranging an event to commemorate the centenary of the end of the First World War.
The event will be held at Pomphrey Hill Sports ground on November 11th and starts at 6.30 pm with the lighting of a beacon. The beacon will be one of more than 1,000 around the country that will symbolise the light of hope that emerged from the darkness of war.
At 6.45 pm the names of the fallen that are on the Mangotsfield War Memorial will be read. This will be followed by the sounding of the “Last Post” and the “Reveille” will be played.
It is hoped church bells will then be rung in celebration of peace.
Lastly, and by no means least, the Bristol Military Wives choir will perform.
This is an outdoor event so attendees are advised to consider suitable clothing and footwear.
During the evening the bar at the pavilion will be open where refreshments, including soup and a roll, can be purchased.
